Lagos Nigeria – June, 2016.
The Onikan Stadium, Lagos is set to host the finals of the 5th edition of the GTBank Masters’ Cup on Friday, June 17, 2016. The Masters’ Cup is a GTBank pioneered and sponsored football competition for first generation and missionary secondary schools in Lagos State, to promote camaraderie and foster friendliness amongst competing schools.
The competition has been an exhilarating journey that has seen the meteoric rise of debutants Green Springs School, who, having thrilled spectators with their electrifying football style, set the stage for a mouthwatering final with current champions St. Gregory College.
Dubbed the revelation of the season, Green Springs will seek to complete their fairy tale story when they go in search of their first ever title, having eliminated Kings College in a 5-1 semi-final drubbing. History will however be on the side of St. Gregory whose ascendancy in the competition has been nothing short of phenomenal, having finished 3rd (2012), 2nd (2014) and 1st (2015). They will be playing for more than just title defense, when they go in search of their third title, knowing that victory this year would enable them retain the cup and enter the history book as the first team to win it three times.
In the girl’s category, bragging rights will be at stake in this year’s Yaba derby when defending champions, Queens College, Yaba go in search of a 3rd title win against a defiant Federal Science & Technology College, Yaba.
Winners will be rewarded with the sum of N750,000.00, N500,000.00 and N350,000.00 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners respectively in both the male and female categories.
